Data Usage & Tracking Policy
Last Updated: January 15, 2025
We're upfront about how we use tracking technologies on positionx.com. This page explains what we collect, why we do it, and how you can control what information gets stored on your device. Our mobile game library platform relies on some data to function properly, but we give you real choices about everything beyond the essentials.
What Are Cookies Anyway?
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device. Think of them as digital sticky notes that help websites remember you between visits. They store things like your preferences, login status, and browsing activity.
When you visit positionx.com, your browser and our servers exchange these files automatically. Some expire when you close your browser—those are session cookies. Others stick around for weeks or months—persistent cookies that help us recognize you on return visits.
We also use similar technologies like web beacons (tiny invisible images) and local storage (a more advanced way to save data in your browser). For simplicity, we're calling all of these "cookies" throughout this document.
The Four Types We Use
Essential Cookies
These keep the site working. They handle security, remember your session, and manage basic site functionality. You can't disable these without breaking core features—they're necessary for positionx.com to operate.
Functional Cookies
These remember your choices like preferred language, game categories you browse most, and interface settings. They make your experience smoother by personalizing how the site behaves for you specifically.
Analytics Cookies
We use these to understand which game library features people actually use, where visitors get stuck, and what content resonates. This helps us build better educational resources and improve navigation.
Marketing Cookies
These track your activity across sessions to show you relevant course recommendations and program updates. They help us understand which promotional content works and prevent you from seeing the same ads repeatedly.
How We Actually Use This Data
Here's what happens with the information we collect through cookies on positionx.com:
Site Functionality & Security
Essential cookies authenticate your login, prevent cross-site attacks, and maintain your session as you navigate between pages. Without these, you'd have to log in on every page and the site would be vulnerable to security issues.
Improving Your Experience
Functional cookies remember things like whether you prefer compact or expanded views of game libraries, which learning tracks you've explored, and your notification preferences. When you return, the site feels familiar instead of generic.
Understanding Usage Patterns
Analytics data shows us which educational content gets completed, where people drop off, and what topics generate the most questions. We used this data in late 2024 to redesign our course navigation after noticing 40% of visitors couldn't find the enrollment forms.
Showing Relevant Content
Marketing cookies help us show you updates about Unity development if you've been browsing Unity courses, or Unreal Engine resources if that's your focus. This beats showing everyone the same generic content regardless of their interests.
Third-Party Tracking
We use some external services that set their own cookies. Google Analytics tracks visitor behavior across our site. These services have their own privacy policies, and they may use your data for purposes beyond what we've described here.
When you reject non-essential cookies through this page, we signal to these services that you've opted out. However, some services may still collect limited anonymous data through server logs and IP addresses—that's beyond cookie control.
How Long Do We Keep This Data?
Session cookies vanish when you close your browser. Functional cookies typically last 12 months. Analytics cookies expire after 24 months. Marketing cookies vary—some last 30 days, others up to 13 months depending on the advertising platform. You can delete all of them anytime through your browser settings.
Managing Your Cookie Preferences
The button at the top of this page lets you reject all non-essential cookies immediately. This keeps only the essential functionality cookies active while blocking functional, analytics, and marketing tracking.
Your choice gets saved in browser storage, so you won't have to keep rejecting cookies every visit. But if you clear your browser data or use a different device, you'll need to set your preference again.
Browser-Level Control
Google Chrome
Click the three dots in the top right, go to Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data. Choose "Block third-party cookies" or "Block all cookies" based on your preference. You can also delete existing cookies from this menu.
Mozilla Firefox
Open Settings from the menu, select Privacy & Security, and scroll to Cookies and Site Data. Choose "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" for automatic cleanup, or manually clear them using the "Clear Data" button.
Safari
Go to Preferences > Privacy, then adjust the "Cookies and website data" settings. Safari blocks third-party cookies by default. Use "Manage Website Data" to see and delete stored cookies from specific sites.
Microsoft Edge
Open Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Cookies and site data. Toggle "Block third-party cookies" or select "Block all cookies." Edge also offers a "Clear browsing data" option under Settings > Privacy to remove existing cookies.
Keep in mind that blocking all cookies will break login functionality and personalized features across most websites, not just ours. Most people find the "block third-party cookies" option strikes a good balance.
Your Rights Regarding Tracking Data
You have the right to know what data we've collected about you through cookies. You can request a copy of this information, ask us to delete it, or object to certain types of tracking. These rights apply regardless of where you're located—we extend them to all positionx.com users.
To exercise these rights, email us at contact@positionx.com with "Cookie Data Request" in the subject line. We'll respond within 15 business days with the information you've requested or confirmation of deletion.
Note that deleting cookie data doesn't delete your account or course progress—those are stored separately in our database. Cookie deletion only removes the tracking files stored in your browser and our associated logs.
Policy Updates
We update this policy when we add new tracking technologies or change how we use existing ones. Major changes get announced through email to active users and a banner notification on the site for 30 days.
The "Last Updated" date at the top shows when we last modified this document. We revised the marketing cookies section in January 2025 after adding new course recommendation features that rely on behavioral tracking.
